The STEM Movement Inspiring 50,000 Kids Annually Across Malaysia & Indonesia

Imagine this: instead of staring at worksheets, your child is mixing colors, coding robots, or building their first “invention.” That’s the magic of Alfa and Friends Malaysia’s very own STEM powerhouse making science, tech, engineering, and math fun for kids.

Founded by engineer-turned-educator Dr Ho Teh Eng, this homegrown program has been sparking curiosity for over 20 years. What started as simple experiments at home for her kids is now a movement shaping 50,000 preschoolers every year across Malaysia and Indonesia.

Why Parents Love Alfa and Friends 💡

Forget boring drills and endless worksheets this program is all about hands-on learning:

Fun-first learning – From color-mixing “magic” to robotics, kids learn by doing, not memorizing.
Age-smart programs – Tailored for kids aged 4–12, with simple coding tools for little ones and advanced robotics for older kids.
Affordable + homegrown – Designed in Malaysia (no pricey overseas franchise fees), so it’s easier on parents’ wallets.
Real-world skills – Kids build creativity, problem-solving, and confidence while reducing screen addiction.

And yes, there’s more: annual STEM carnivals, competitions, and events where children showcase projects, make friends, and fall in love with innovation.

The Woman Behind the Revolution 👩‍🔬

Dr Ho has a PhD in Education – after completing her degree in engineering,  motherhood flipped her perspective. After seeing her son stuck with dull preschool worksheets, she and her husband decided to bring science alive at home. Their DIY experiments became Alfa and Friends today a network of centers in Ampang, Bangi, Puchong, Bukit Raja, Kota Warisan, and soon expanding to even more cities.

Her mission? To raise creators, not just consumers. As she puts it:

“Even adults prefer hands-on workshops over lectureswh y should kids be different?”

Her own kids are now engineers too, a real-life testament that the system works.

The Impact: Building Thinkers, Not Just Students

Every week, kids debug code, solve puzzles, and build things from scratch. It’s the kind of practice that prepares them for an AI-driven future where creativity beats memorization. With 1,000 teachers trained annually and certified through global partners like the London Examinations Board, quality stays consistent across centers.

Parents are noticing. One dad summed it up best:

“I’m impressed my daughter is the only one, but I can’t wait to enroll her!”
