Where Fashion Meets Legacy: Inside the Queen Sirikit Museum of Textiles

To honour the life and enduring legacy of Her Majesty Queen Sirikit The Queen Mother, the Queen Sirikit Museum of Textiles has officially opened its doors to the public with free admission until further notice.

Located within Bangkok’s Grand Palace, the museum stands as a living tribute to the Queen Mother’s lifelong devotion to preserving and modernising Thai craftsmanship. Known as the “Queen of Thai Silk,” Her Majesty transformed the nation’s traditional textiles into global icons of artistry, grace, and national pride.

A Royal Vision in Every Stitch

Founded in 2003 under royal patronage, the Queen Sirikit Museum of Textiles was conceived as a haven for Thai artisanship and innovation. Today, it continues to spotlight the beauty of Thai fabrics through exhibitions that blend history, design, and cultural storytelling.

Its current highlight, “Chud Thai: Dressing the Nation in Heritage,” celebrates the eight official styles of Thai dress introduced and refined by the Queen Mother herself. Each piece whether inspired by French haute couture or handcrafted Thai silk tells a story of national identity, elegance, and craftsmanship.

Empowering Communities Through Art

Beyond fashion and history, the museum honours Her Majesty’s humanitarian spirit through the Support Foundation, which she established to empower rural communities. The foundation’s programs in weaving, embroidery, and natural dyeing have helped sustain local economies and preserve Thailand’s centuries-old artistry proof that creativity and compassion can shape nations.
