She didn’t plan to build a movement.
She just wanted children to believe they could read.
Nearly two decades later, that simple mission has quietly transformed hundreds of young lives.
In a world where kids scroll faster than they read and confidence often hides behind screens, one education centre in Cheras has been doing something different teaching children how to think, express, and believe in their voice.
Welcome to the story of CLE Enrichment Centre.
Where It All Began

Back in 2006, Sonia stepped into education not as a lifelong teacher but as someone exploring a new chapter.
Her sister had already started the enrichment centre and was managing the operations. Sonia joined the team to help with teaching.
At first, it felt like simply helping out the family business.
But once she began working closely with children, something clicked.
She noticed a pattern.
Many students struggled with reading and writing, not because they lacked intelligence but because they lacked the right environment.
Encouragement was missing.
Confidence was fragile.
And many children had already convinced themselves they simply “weren’t good enough”.
That realization changed everything.
“It’s not that children cannot do it,” Sonia explains. “Often, they just haven’t been given the right support to believe they can.”
And that belief became the foundation of CLE Enrichment Centre.
Building Strong Minds Not Just Good Grades
Unlike traditional tuition centres that focus purely on exam performance, CLE takes a different route.
Their philosophy is simple:
Build the foundation first. Results will follow.
The centre’s core programs revolve around reading and writing mastery, developed step by step.
Children begin with phonics and reading comprehension, learning not just to recognize words but to understand meaning.
Once that foundation is strong, they move into structured writing programs, where they develop the ability to craft sentences, build paragraphs, and eventually write full essays.
But the real goal goes deeper.
CLE follows the principles of Bloom’s Taxonomy, guiding students through stages of learning from understanding and analysis to creativity and expression.
In other words, students don’t just read stories.
They question them.
Interpret them.
Form opinions.
And eventually create ideas of their own.
Because real education isn’t about memorising.
It’s about learning how to think.
When Confidence Finds Its Voice
As the centre evolved, Sonia and her team noticed something interesting.
Some students could read beautifully and write impressively.
But the moment they stood on a stage?
Silence.
Fear took over.
So CLE introduced public speaking classes about six years ago another powerful skill set designed to help children articulate their thoughts with confidence.
Because having ideas is one thing.
Having the courage to share them is another.

The centre also expanded into adult English programmes, recognising that strong communication skills are just as important in the professional world.
Growing Slowly And Intentionally
Today, CLE Enrichment Centre serves over 100 students, many of whom stay for years.
Some have been with the centre for 12 to 13 years, growing from shy young readers into confident thinkers.
Parents often ask Sonia the same question:
“Why not expand? Why not open more branches?”
Her answer is refreshingly honest.
Quality matters more than scale.
“I’d rather keep the centre small and ensure every child gets the attention they deserve,” she says.
Because education isn’t just a business decision.
It’s a responsibility.
From Flyers to Digital Discovery
When CLE first started, marketing looked very different.
There were no viral reels or Instagram campaigns.
Just flyers, conversations with parents, and word-of-mouth recommendations.
And for years, that was enough.
In fact, Sonia estimates 95% of students came through referrals from happy parents.
Today, the centre has embraced digital platforms building its presence through Facebook, Instagram, and its website.
But the heart of the brand remains unchanged.
Trust.
Because when parents see their children grow more confident, more expressive, and more curious about learning that speaks louder than any advertisement.
Raising Readers in a Screen Obsessed World
Ask Sonia about the biggest challenge facing children today, and her answer comes quickly.
Distraction.
Phones. Games. Endless scrolling.
But instead of fighting technology, CLE focuses on something timeless: storytelling and reading culture.
When children fall in love with stories, their imagination awakens.
They begin to visualise characters.
Understand emotions.
Explore ideas.
And slowly, the screen becomes less attractive than the world unfolding inside a book.
Of course, Sonia believes parents play a crucial role too.
“Education works best when teachers and parents work together,” she says.
Create a reading friendly home.
Encourage curiosity.
And watch the transformation unfold.
The Bigger Mission

At its core, CLE Enrichment Centre isn’t just about English.
It’s about equipping the next generation with tools for life.
Communication.
Critical thinking.
Confidence.
Because language is more than grammar and vocabulary.
It’s the gateway to ideas, creativity, and leadership.
And in today’s fast-changing world, those skills matter more than ever.
One Centre. Hundreds of Stories.
From a small family initiative in 2006 to a respected learning hub in Cheras today, CLE Enrichment Centre continues to shape young minds one student at a time.
Quietly.
Passionately.
And with a belief that every child deserves the chance to discover their voice.
Because sometimes, all it takes is the right teacher…
…to help a child realise they were capable all along.
