Courage, Collaboration, Change. The Leadership Journey of HP Malaysia’s Mee Mee Hong

In a world where technology evolves faster than ever, HP Malaysia’s Mee Mee Hong isn’t just keeping pace she’s clearing the path for others to follow. As Director of Channel Sales at HP Malaysia, Mee Mee blends business strategy with an empowering belief: true innovation begins with inclusion.

Her journey  from a background in statistics to leading one of the nation’s most diverse tech teams  is a masterclass in courage, collaboration, and impact.

From Unlikely Beginnings to Tech Leadership

Mee Mee’s entry into tech was far from conventional. Armed with a background in statistics and early exposure to engineering, she took a leap of faith into tech sales 18 years ago a move that would shape her entire career.

“Even after 18 years, I’m still excited about how the industry evolves,” she says. “Tech empowers people and businesses to be more effective, and I’ve found my place within that growth.”

Since joining HP Malaysia, Mee Mee has become a key driver of transformation  strengthening HP’s partner ecosystem and accelerating the country’s digital evolution. Her leadership was recognised at the Channel Asia Women in ICT Awards 2022, where she earned distinction for driving 300% e-commerce growth and expanding HP’s partner network through the HP Amplify Programme.

Inclusion as Everyday Leadership

For Mee Mee, inclusion isn’t a corporate buzzword  it’s a leadership principle lived daily.

“We empower everyone to share ideas regardless of seniority,” she explains. “Diverse perspectives help us solve real market challenges.”

She recalls how, early in her career, success often hinged on after-hours networking  spaces not always welcoming to women. Today, she’s proud to see a new norm emerging: open conversations, visible female leadership, and workplaces where belonging is built into the culture.

Courage to Challenge Bias and Lead Change

Mee Mee’s philosophy centers on courage to speak up, challenge bias, and take ownership. It’s this courage, she says, that helps women step into leadership roles and inspire others to do the same.

“Having the courage to share our perspectives creates opportunity,” she shares. “When women take the lead, it builds confidence across the workforce.”

Across Southeast Asia, Mee Mee sees more women taking charge — from HP’s operations in Thailand to engineering and R&D roles once seen as male domains. This progress is powered by HP’s flexible work models, mentorship programs, and leadership training.

HP Malaysia’s DEI Blueprint in Action

At HP, diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) aren’t ideals  they’re measurable goals. The company aims for 50/50 gender representation in leadership and 30% women in tech and engineering roles by 2030.

Through initiatives like the Women Impact Network and HP Spark, female talent are mentored by senior leaders, given access to global opportunities, and empowered to lead from within.

“These aren’t just programs,” Mee Mee notes. “They’ve made HP Malaysia a Great Place to Work-certified company. More than half my team are women  proof that diverse leadership isn’t a dream, it’s our reality.”

Advice for Aspiring Women in Tech

When asked what advice she’d give to women hoping to build a career in tech, Mee Mee’s answer is simple yet powerful: start early, find mentors, and never let fear decide your path.

“I’d love to see more young women join programs like HP Spark, where they can experience real-world innovation and discover their strengths,” she says.

She also rejects the outdated notion that women must choose between family and career. With the right support and confidence, she believes women can excel in both  a belief she models for her own team.

Leading Malaysia’s Inclusive Tech Future

As Malaysia embraces its digital future, leaders like Mee Mee Hong prove that inclusion is more than a value  it’s the engine of innovation.

Whether mentoring young talent, guiding HP’s channel partners, or reshaping strategy at a national level, Mee Mee embodies a new era of leadership one rooted in empathy, courage, and collective growth.

“Inclusion isn’t just about representation,” she says. “It’s about rethinking how decisions are made and whose voices matter.”

Through her vision, HP Malaysia is not only breaking glass ceilings  it’s building a foundation where every voice has power. And in doing so, Mee Mee Hong is redefining what it means to lead, inspire, and create lasting change in the world of tech.
