Expanding Horizons Malaysia Singapore Airlines Alliance Redefines Connectivity

Malaysia Airlines Bhd (MAB) and Singapore Airlines (SIA) have officially cemented a strategic partnership, unlocking a new chapter of cooperation between the two carriers. The collaboration received formal approval from the Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia in January 2026 and was earlier cleared by the Competition and Consumer Commission of Singapore in July 2025.

The enhanced alliance is designed to strengthen connectivity and give travellers more seamless and flexible travel options between Malaysia and Singapore. Both airlines are exploring opportunities such as shared flight revenues, coordinated schedules, joint fare offerings, and unified corporate travel solutions.

Datuk Captain Izham bin Ismail, Group Managing Director of Malaysia Aviation Group, highlighted the value of the partnership: “By aligning schedules and combining networks, this collaboration enhances connectivity between Malaysia and Singapore. Over time, it strengthens Malaysia Airlines’ competitive position with greater scale, relevance, and resilience across key markets.”

Singapore Airlines Chief Executive Officer Goh Choon Phong added that the partnership is mutually beneficial: “This strategic collaboration fortifies our operations and delivers enhanced value to customers across our combined networks. It also reinforces the deep people-to-people and economic ties between Singapore and Malaysia, supporting broader growth and connectivity.”

The two carriers initially signed a cooperation agreement in October 2019, and have since steadily expanded their codeshare network. Singapore Airlines now places its code on Malaysia Airlines’ flights between Kuala Lumpur and Singapore, London (Heathrow), and 15 Malaysian domestic destinations. Meanwhile, Malaysia Airlines codeshares on Singapore Airlines’ flights between Singapore and Kuala Lumpur, Penang, and several major international cities, including Barcelona, Brussels, Cape Town, Copenhagen, Istanbul, Johannesburg, Rome, and Zurich.

In February 2024, both airlines also introduced reciprocal frequent flyer benefits, allowing members of Malaysia Airlines’ Enrich programme and Singapore Airlines’ KrisFlyer to earn and redeem points on selected flights across both networks.
