What if the talent you buried became the brand that changed how a nation wears its culture?
That’s exactly what happened to KANOE Wear, a homegrown label that turned traditional batik into an effortless, everyday style. Founded in 2016 by designer Noelle Kan, KANOE is proof that when heritage meets heart, magic follows.
A Divine Nudge, A Cultural Awakening

Trained in fashion in Sydney and Florence, Noelle Kan came home questioning the fashion industry’s soul. She chose teaching. Then mission work. Then life paused her hard.
Illness brought her back to Malaysia lost, unsure, disconnected from design. Until one sentence changed everything:
“You’ve buried your talent too deep. It’s time.”
That moment lit the spark.
Noelle returned to what she loved, Malaysian batik and reimagined it not as ceremonial wear, but as something light, fun, and wearable. Something you could throw on and still feel proud. That’s how KANOE Wear was born.
What Makes KANOE Wear Different?

KANOE doesn’t do anything stiff or outdated.
It does:
- 🌺 Modern batik for everyday wear
- 👗 Women’s dresses, tops, skirts & accessories
- 👔 Men’s batik shirts that actually feel cool
- 🎨 One-off and limited prints (no mass sameness)
- ♻️ Ethical production + zero-waste mindset
The vibe?
Carefree. Tropical. Confidence.
A true “child of the tropics” energy fresh, joyful, and unapologetically Malaysian.
From Zero Budget to Cultural Favourite

KANOE launched with:
- No investors
- No ads
- No business background
Just grit.
Noelle built the website in one day. Sold through pop-ups. Started with one refugee tailor who later went full-time. Slowly, the brand grew through trust, community, and word of mouth.
Then came the wins:
- Featured in Tatler
- Showcased at major fashion platforms
- A nationwide collaboration with Guardian Pharmacy (300+ stores!)
- And in 2023 a physical store at REXKL
Today, KANOE proudly calls Kuala Lumpur home where batik meets city life.
Growing Slower. Growing Smarter.
In 2026, KANOE isn’t chasing hype.
It’s choosing:
- Organic growth
- Lean operations
- Creative joy over burnout
Noelle’s goal is simple yet powerful:
“I want to be happy doing what I love and grow in a way that lasts.”
Another store is on the horizon. But always with heart first.
