He Walked Away from an Engineering Career and Built One of Malaysia’s Most Trusted Tuition Centres

Most people would never walk away from a “safe” future. Mr. Terry Tee did and built something far more powerful.

This is not a story about quitting.

It’s a story about choosing the right path before it’s too late.

When Passion Speaks Louder Than Prestige

An Electrical Engineering degree from the University of Malaya is supposed to be the beginning of an engineering career.

For Terry, it felt like a detour.

He started teaching right after Form 6, long before graduation gowns and career ladders entered the picture. Even while studying engineering, his evenings were spent tutoring, explaining concepts, watching students “get it,” and feeling something engineering never gave him.

Fulfilment.

At some point, the truth became impossible to ignore.

Teaching wasn’t a side hustle.

It was his Ikigai what he loved, what he was good at, and what students genuinely needed.

Walking away from engineering wasn’t reckless. It was honest.

2008: A Leap That Changed Everything

With courage (and zero guarantees), Terry founded Pusat Tuisyen Teliti. No big funding.

No flashy branding.

Just a deep belief that education could be done better. The early days? Fewer than 100 students.

Today?

Over 1,000 students, a second branch in Kota Kemuning, and a reputation parents trust.

But Teliti’s growth was never about scale alone. It was about substance.

The Teliti Standard: Built Different, Built to Last

Terry didn’t just run a tuition centre. He engineered one.

Drawing from his technical background, he built a system obsessed with clarity, structure, and results.

  • 100+ original modules and books, written in-house
  • Published author with EPH Publishing

  • Custom materials that go beyond “market standard” worksheets

Teliti became especially known for one thing:

Science & Maths mastery, particularly for SPM students, not forgetting IGCSE and

A-Levels.

Parents noticed. Students improved. Word spread.

Profit Was Never the Goal. Progress Was.

In an industry where shortcuts are tempting, Terry chose the harder route. No cutting corners.

No chasing numbers at the expense of outcomes. At Teliti, performance comes before profit.

If a method doesn’t work, it’s fixed.

If a student struggles, the system adapts. That philosophy-built loyalty you can’t buy.

COVID Didn’t Break Teliti. It Upgraded It.

When the pandemic shut doors across the country, tuition centres everywhere panicked. Terry pivoted. Fast.

Teliti launched a hybrid learning model Zoom, projectors, and flexible access that allowed students to learn online or physically, without compromise.

The result?

Students from Sabah, Sarawak, Johor, Penang, and beyond. A local tuition centre with national reach.

Pressure created progress.

The 10,000-Student Vision

Terry isn’t slowing down. He’s scaling with purpose. His next five years are bold and intentional:

  • 10,000 students reached across Malaysia
  • A full digital learning platform & LMS with on-demand access
  • Training a new generation of “Super Tutors”skilled, engaging, and magnetic His belief is simple but powerful:

Great teachers aren’t made by chance. Some are born to teach and trained to lead.

More Than a Tuition Centre. A Movement.

Pusat Tuisyen Teliti isn’t just helping students pass exams. It’s shaping confidence, clarity, and futures.

And Mr. Terry Tee’s journey proves one thing loud and clear: You don’t fail by changing direction.

You fail by ignoring your calling.
